In the skilled trades, workers need to know certain things on the first day of a job. For example, if a tradesperson works with cranes, it’s important to know where to stand to stay out of the way of a heavy load. Too many accidents and errors occur due to a lack of competence on the job.

The CICC certification programs were built to protect UBC members, contractors, and the public by taking steps to assess workers’ competence against a validated set of criteria and to verify that certification holders have met the qualifications required of a job. The CICC certification programs are developing a massive pool of competent workers who know how to safely operate in the trade on the first day the certification is earned.

Obtaining accreditation from an internationally-recognized external organization, such as the NCCA, makes a major difference because it communicates to contractors, the industry, and the public that CICC programs are top-notch and professional. Accreditation validates the programs, providing assurance that the programs are thoroughly abiding by industry standards. This validation, in turn, provides confidence in the certification itself, not only for those leading the program but also for certification holders and the public that the certified trades serve. Ultimately, accreditation can promote the capture of a greater market share as a result of higher demand for those in the trades who have an accredited certification, compared with those who have a non-accredited credential, or none at all. The CICC certification programs help the UBC to solidify our position as the best in the business.
